SUMMARY: Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in students Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and Positive Behavioral Support Plan (PBSP) within RISE/Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.
Salary Range: $18.91 - $26.00

- Able to facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners.
- Implement and follow an IEP and PBSP.
- Assist with setup of classroom, individual student area, and prepares materials for specialized instruction.
- Collect relevant data and data entry.
- Assist in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current as requested.
- Operate standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
- Responsible for following day-to-day schedule of students.
- Maintain constant attention during 1:1 and other direct services:
- Refrain from cell phone use, except during personal breaks.
- Wear appropriate clothing, including closed-toe shoes.
- Follow precautions set forth in PBSP and by Sped/BCBA/Clinician direction.
- Keep calm in unforeseen circumstances and manage challenging behavior.
- Teamwork is imperative; professional communication helps create a safe and structured environment.
- Written communication: must be legible, professional and student-centered.
- Verbal communication: use feedback to improve skill and knowledge; follow directions from Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration.
- Communicate appropriately with other Ed. Techs and staff.
Instruction in RISE/DT classroom with Special Education Teacher with 1:1, 1:2 and small groups in RISE/DT and General Education classrooms as indicated.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTSTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
PREVIOUS EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE- Three years postsecondary education and/or accumulation of 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area.
- This is essential for Education Technician III certification required by Maine DOE.
- This is also required for (School Based) Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
Read and comprehend technical educational instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Write simple correspondence. Present information effectively in 1:1, 1:2 and small group situations to students, co‑teachers, and other school personnel.
Mathematical SkillsAdd, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Compute mean, rate, ratio, and percent; draw bar and line graphs.
Reasoning AbilityFollow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans; find solutions within scope of applicable laws and methodologies of Applied Behavior Analysis and QBS, Safety Care.
OtherSkills and Abilities
Previous work in child care and/or education is preferred. Develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Perform duties with awareness of district requirements and School committee policies. Advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.
PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequirements include sitting, talking or listening; standing, walking, climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling; occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 lbs. Vision abilities required: close, distance, peripheral.
WORK ENVIRONMENTTypical noise level is loud within acceptable limits. Continuously responsible for safety, well-being and work output of students.
