Summary:
Assists Special Education Teacher in delivery of educational services indicated in Resource Room.
Salary Range: $18.73 - $25.48

- Able to facilitate 1:1, 1:2 and small group instruction while meeting the needs of complex learners. This includes all academic and social opportunities throughout the day (lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks with peers and transportation). A Resource Room Ed Tech is always with their student(s) unless otherwise indicated by the IEP and/or Special Education Teacher direction.
- Able to implement and follow an IEP and PBSP. Responsible to implement de-escalation strategies throughout the day.
- Assist with setup of classroom, individual student area, and prepare materials for specialized instruction.
- Collect relevant data and data entry.
- Assist in assembling/hanging materials on bulletin boards and keeping displays current as requested.
- Operate standard school equipment such as computer, laminator, copier, audiovisual, etc.
- Responsible for following day-to-day schedule of students.
- The nature of 1:1 and other direct services in RISE/DT requires constant attention. This includes: refraining from cell phone use except during breaks; wearing appropriate attire (closed-toe shoes); following PBSP and directives from Sped/BCBA/Clinician; maintaining composure in unforeseen circumstances related to challenging behavior.
- Teamwork is imperative. Professional communication skills are essential to facilitate a safe and structured environment.
- Written communication: Communications should be legible, professional and in the best interest of students.
- Verbal communication: Feedback should be constructive. Directions and recommendations from the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration should be followed to the greatest extent possible. Communication among Ed. Techs should be appropriate to the environment and audience.
Instruction in RISE/DT classroom with Special Education Teacher, with 1:1, 1:2 and small group support in RISE/DT and General Education classrooms as indicated.
Qualification Requirements

- Three years postsecondary education and/or 90 credit hours of approved study in a related area. For vocational education, three years of work experience in the field.
- Essential for Education Technician III certification required by Maine DOE.
- Required for (School Based) Behavioral Health Professional (BHP) certification.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical educational instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in 1:1, 1:2 and small group situations to students, co-teachers, and other school personnel as appropriate.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and to compute mean, rate, ratio and percent; ability to interpret graphs.
- Ability to follow complex educational and behavioral treatment plans. Ability to find solutions within applicable laws and methodologies such as Applied Behavior Analysis and Safety Care.
Skills and Abilities
- Previous work in child care and/or education is preferred. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Clear written and verbal communication. Willingness to advocate for inclusion of RISE students within the General Education setting.
The physical demands include regular sitting, standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling. Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Ability to push items up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision for data collection.
Work EnvironmentTypical work environment in a school setting with reasonable accommodations available. Noise level usually loud but within a standard acceptable range. Employee is responsible for student safety and well-being.
