The role is based in the RISE / FLS / Day Treatment programs operated by Lewiston Public Schools.

Essential Requirement:
Availability

The employee must be available and able to work five (5) days per week, Monday through Friday, according to the Lewiston Public Schools schedule. This is an essential function of the position, not a preference.

RISE /FLS / Day Treatment students depend on consistent staffing to follow their IEPs and PBSPs safely. Regular, predictable attendance on every scheduled school day is therefore required, along with any required professional development days on the district calendar.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Facilitate 1:1, 1:2, and small-group instruction that meets the needs of complex learners, across all academic and social opportunities in the day.
  • This includes academic instruction, lunch, recess, hallway transitions, breaks with peers, and transportation.
  • A RISE /FLS/ DT Ed Tech is always with their student(s), unless the IEP or the Special Education Teacher directs otherwise.
  • Implement and follow each student's IEP and PBSP.
  • Use de-escalation strategies throughout the day.
  • Help set up the classroom and individual student areas, and prepare materials for specialized instruction.
  • Collect relevant data and complete data entry.
  • Help assemble and hang bulletin board materials and keep displays current, as requested.
  • Operate standard school equipment, such as computers, laminators, copiers, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Follow each student's day-to-day schedule.
  • Give students constant attention during 1:1 and other direct services, including:
  • Refraining from cell phone use except during personal breaks.
  • Dressing appropriately for the role, including closed-toe shoes every day.
  • Following precautions in each PBSP and as directed by the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, or Clinician.
  • Staying calm in unforeseen circumstances and considering variables that may maintain challenging behavior.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None. The Ed Tech III provides instruction with the Special Education Teacher in 1:1, 1:2, and small-group settings, in both RISE /FLS / DT and general education classrooms as indicated.

Communication

Teamwork is essential to the services RISE /FLS / DT provides, and it starts with professional communication that keeps the environment safe and structured.

  • Written: Legible, professional, and always in the best interest of students.
  • Verbal feedback: Delivered in many ways throughout the day and intended to improve skills and job knowledge.
  • Following direction: Directions and recommendations from the Special Education Teacher, BCBA, Clinician, and school administration are followed to the greatest extent possible.
  • Among Ed Techs: Communication is appropriate to the setting and the audience present.
