Central Maine Healthcare is seeking a Histotechnologist to join our Medical Laboratory team at Central Maine Medical Center. This is a full‑time, 40‑hour per week, benefit‑eligible position.

Perform routine and complex procedures in Anatomic Pathology for surgical, post‑mortem, bone marrow, cytologic, and other specimens. Work independently, organize work to meet deadlines, and maintain job competence. In the absence of the supervisor, assume supervisory responsibilities.

• Nationally recognized certification credentials or equivalent.
• Baccalaureate degree in histology or related life science with approved training preferred.
• Non‑traditional routes may be accepted after review of experience and education.

• Consult with and keep the pathologist's assistant informed of activities, needs, and problems.
• Function effectively in all sections of the histology laboratory as assigned.
• Plan, organize, and prioritize work duties to accomplish daily objectives.
• Perform duties according to established standards and procedures, ensuring safety and accuracy.
• Properly identify, label, and handle specimens throughout processing.
• Discard or store specimens upon completion of procedures.
• Independently perform routine histology procedures, including paraffin tissue embedding, microtomy, H&E, special staining, frozen section preparation, immunoperoxidase staining, cell block and cytology preparation, and stain preparation.
• Assist pathologists or radiologists in specimen collection.
• Communicate specimen requirements and technical information to other personnel.
• Perform routine quality control and maintenance on procedures and equipment.
• Resolve equipment or QC problems independently or with supervisory guidance.
• Identify and report workflow problems to the pathologist’s assistant or charge personnel.
• Collaborate with supervisory personnel and respond to direction.
• Participate in continuing education and meet established requirements.
• Assist in departmental inventory management and maintain adequate reagent and slide supplies.
• Assist in post‑mortem examinations as needed.
• Develop new procedures and testing methods under supervision.
• Make judgment and decision‑making calls, prioritize workflow, and understand laboratory testing factors.
• Participate in training and development of new employees.
• Assume supervisory responsibilities in the supervisor’s absence.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Effective oral and written communication in English.
• Strong written and verbal skills; additional languages preferred.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to engage patients and team members following CMH Experience Standards.
