Central Maine Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Float Team! Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 400,000 people living in central, western and Midcoast Maine. CMH's hospital facilities include Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. CMH also supports Central Maine Medical Group, a primary and specialty care practice organization.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

The RN, Float Pool Medical/Surgical provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical‑surgical setting. Communicates with physicians, nurse managers, and co‑workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition, diagnostic studies, and symptomatology. Quickly and accurately responds to changes in condition or treatment. Performs general nursing duties in all departments, including regional facilities with adequate supervision.

Essential Duties
  • Obtains nursing history, performs assessment, and develops plan of care.
  • Performs head‑to‑toe assessment and reassessments per policy for all patient populations.
  • Demonstrates time‑conscious awareness and ability to prioritize during high acuity situations.
  • Provides patient care considering needs specific to patient standard of care.
  • Shows knowledge of medications and correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Follows medication rights to reduce errors.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Starts peripheral IVs and cares for post‑surgical patients.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Communicates professionally with patients/families and provides appropriate care and information based on patient status.
  • Provides age‑appropriate care across the life span.
  • Interprets data to identify patient needs and provide necessary care.
  • Ensures patient safety, reduces medical/healthcare errors.
  • Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
  • Consults with team members and departments to provide interdisciplinary care.
  • Communicates clearly with leadership and providers.
  • Maintains strong working relationships within and across departments.
  • Documents in accordance with current standards and policies.
  • Manages equipment safely and correctly.
  • Co‑ordinates and supervises patient care as needed.
  • Maintains safe, comfortable therapeutic environment.
  • Engages in professional growth and continuing education.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current registered nurse licensure in Maine; BSN preferred.
  • American Heart Association BLS required.
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy experience required.
  • 2 years’ experience preferred; 1 year’s acute care experience required.
Language Skills
  • Effective communication in English, verbal and written.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Additional languages preferred.
