Responsibilities
  • Manage individualized direct patient care to pediatric through geriatric patient populations by promoting and restoring patients’ health through the nursing process.
  • Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary team members.
  • Provide exceptional patient experience by supporting and educating the patient and family throughout their hospitalization.
  • Act as the patient advocate while actively following a plan of care and responding to changes in condition and/or response to treatments.
  • Obtain nursing history, perform nursing assessment and develop plan of care for patients.
  • Perform a head‑to‑toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy, including adult, geriatric and general patient population.
  • Demonstrate time‑conscious awareness and prioritize during high acuity situations.
  • Perform patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient’s age.
  • Show knowledge of medications and correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Follow the five medication rights and reduce potential medication errors.
  • Assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Start peripheral IV’s.
  • Care for post‑surgical patients.
  • Treat patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Serve as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Interact professionally with patient/family and provide appropriate care and information based on patient status.
  • Apply knowledge of principles of growth and development over the lifespan and provide age‑appropriate care.
  • Interpret data about patient’s status to identify specific needs.
  • Perform all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes safety and reduces likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Participate in performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Consult other health team members/departments as appropriate to provide an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to Director, Nurse Leader, Team Leader, Nursing Supervisor, co‑workers and providers.
  • Maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary.
  • Be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards.
  • Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in‑service meetings and workshops; show responsibility for own professional practice and ongoing education.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse License, in the state of Maine; BSN preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS required.

Critical Care/ED

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse License, in the state of Maine; BSN preferred.
  • Current ACLS and BLS (PALS desired).
  • TNCC desired.

Preferred

  • One year of nursing experience.
