Central Maine Medical Center is seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Float Team!

Central Maine Healthcare is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving 탈w 400,000 people in central, western and Midcoast Maine. CMH’s hospital facilities include Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital. CMH also supports Central Maine Medical Group, a primary and specialty care practice organization. Other system services include the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, a regional trauma program, Life Flight of Maine’s southern Maine base, the Central Maine Comprehensive Cancer Center and other high‑quality clinical services.

Position

Summary

The RN, Float Pool Medical/Surgical provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical‑surgical setting, communicating with physicians/Nurse Manager/co‑workers regarding patient changes, including diagnostic results and symptomatology, blender responding quickly and accurately to changes in condition. The RN also performs general nursing duties in all departments, including the regional facilities with adequate supervision.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
  • Obtains nursing history, performs nursing assessment, and develops plan of care for patients.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform a head‑to‑toe assessment on all patients and conduct reassessments as per policy (adult, geriatric, general population).
  • Demonstrates time‑conscious awareness and prioritizes during high‑acuity situations.
  • Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient age.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age and clinical condition.
  • Follows the five medication rights to reduce the potential for medication errors.
  • Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills.
  • Starts peripheral IVs.
  • Cares for post‑surgical patients.
  • Treats patients and families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and families.
  • Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and provides appropriate care and information based on patient status.
  • Interprets patient‑status data to identify each patient’s age‑specific needs and provide needed care.
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces medical/healthcare errors.
  • Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities.
  • Consults other health team members/departments for an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly with leadership and providers.
  • Maintains good working relationships within and across departments.
  • Documents fully, meeting current standards and policies.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, organization, and ability to function under stress.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment per hospital standards.

Qualifications
  • Current state Registered Nurse licensure, State of Maine (BSN preferred).
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required.
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy experience required.
  • 2 years of experience preferred; 1 year acute‑care experience required.
Language Skills
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Additional languages preferred.
