An immediate start is needed. Interviews will be conducted for selection. The manager will approve candidates. The nurse must be willing to float between pediatric and adult units as needed. This is a free-standing acute inpatient facility. It has a total of 94 pediatric beds and 44 adult beds. All patients come from an emergency department and are medically cleared. It is not typical to have lines, drains, tubes, etc.

Involuntary and voluntary admissions are accepted. Pediatric patients range from ages 5 to 18 years old. Adult patients are 18 years and older, including geriatric patients. Common diagnoses for pediatric patients include eating disorders, depression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, op positional defiant disorder, and gender dysphoria. For adults, diagnoses include schizophrenia, major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, and occasionally eating disorders, suicidal ideation, and anxiety.

The facility does not house forensic patients or inmates. Seclusion rooms are available when necessary. Occasionally, patients with substance use disorders or those detoxing may be seen, but they must be medically cleared. The team will provide traditional medical and psychiatric care along with specialized therapies such as pet therapy, group sessions, and community gardens. Patient ratios are 1 RN to 5-6 patients during the day shift and 1 RN to 13 patients at night with resource support.

Psych Tech support includes 6 Techs during the day for pediatrics and 2 Techs  adults, there are 2 Techs available during both shifts. Support on the unit includes a Director of Nursing, a Nurse Manager during the day, and on-call support overnight. The unit is staffed by a nurse practitioner available until 4:00 PM and on-call overnight. Psychiatrists conduct daily rounds and are on-call during the night.

Occupational therapists are available seven days a week. Security is on-site but does not respond to patient escalations. Staff members from all units, including Techs and Nurses, respond to those escalations. The charting system used is Cerner. Floating is required between all units, both pediatric and adult. Travelers may have the opportunity to act as charge nurse, but this is not mandatory.

Weekend rotations are every other weekend. Working during holidays is expected as part of the rotation. Scheduling will follow a modified self-scheduling approach, where travelers can sign up for their preferred shifts. Management will review the shifts to ensure coverage and make adjustments as necessary. Travelers should communicate any issues or concerns to management, who will work collaboratively to resolve them.

Scrub color is any solid color, and professional attire is required. During winter months, heavy snowfall is expected. If there are escalations, a code leader will assign roles to staff while de-escalating the patient. Travelers may lead these code situations if comfortable and should complete a debriefing form afterward. Travelers should feel free to ask for additional training in de-escalation techniques.

Scenario-based training is offered every other week for practice.
