Substation project engineer

We are seeking an experienced Substation Project Engineer to support the full lifecycle of substation projects—from concept and design through construction drawings and project completion. This hybrid role is based in Lewisville, TX (3 days in office).

• Lead engineering and design for utility substation projects
• Deliver electrical designs (relay upgrades, breaker additions, transformer replacements, RTUs, and new substations)
• Produce physical designs for bus additions, new equipment installations, and greenfield substations
• Develop scopes, estimates, schedules, and key project deliverables
• Prepare specifications, material lists, and oversee creation of construction drawing packages
• Support project closeout, including as-built revisions
• Coordinate with clients, utilities, manufacturers, and internal teams
• Conduct site visits for documentation and field inspections
• Mentor designers, CAD technicians, and junior engineers
• Stay current on substation standards and recommend improvements
• Serve as Lead Engineer on assigned projects

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Several years of substation design and construction experience
• PE license or professional certification preferred (EIT considered)
• Strong understanding of applicable engineering codes and standards
• Proficiency with scheduling and spreadsheet tools
• Ability to manage projects, direct teams, and drive on-time delivery
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on QA/QC
• Adaptability and willingness to support occasional extended/field hours
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
