Collections Specialist

Description

We are looking for a Collections Specialist to join a wholesale distribution organization in Lexington, Kentucky. This contract to permanent opportunity is ideal for someone who can balance strong account resolution skills with a detail-oriented, service-focused approach when working with commercial customers. The person in this role will help manage outstanding balances, maintain positive client relationships, and support consistent cash flow through effective follow-up and communication.

Responsibilities:

- Manage commercial account portfolios by reviewing past-due balances and taking timely action to secure payment.

- Communicate with customers by phone and email to resolve billing concerns while maintaining a high level of service.

- Track collection activity, document account updates, and maintain accurate records of payment discussions and commitments.

- Work with internal teams to clarify invoice details, research discrepancies, and support resolution of account issues.

- Follow up on delinquent accounts in a consistent manner to reduce aging balances and improve overall collections performance.

- Negotiate payment arrangements when appropriate and monitor adherence to agreed terms.

- Provide status updates on receivables and escalate high-risk accounts when additional review is needed.

Requirements - Previous experience in collections, with the ability to manage overdue accounts effectively.

- Background handling commercial collections in a business-to-business environment.

- Strong customer service skills with the ability to collect payments in a detail-oriented manner.

- Clear verbal and written communication skills for interacting with customers and internal partners.

- Ability to investigate account issues, identify payment obstacles, and support timely resolution.

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when maintaining account records.

- Comfort working in a fast-paced setting within the wholesale distribution industry.
