The Construction Engineer supports the planning, coordination, and execution of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through project closeout. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, architects, engineers, owners, and vendors to help ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, on schedule, and within budget.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, technically capable, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
RequirementsKey Responsibilities
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with day-to-day project coordination and administration.
- Review construction drawings, specifications, contracts, and other project documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare, track, and distribute Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Manage the submittal process, including subcontractor submissions, architect/engineer reviews, and required revisions.
- Maintain current drawings, specifications, submittals, RFIs, and other project documentation.
- Assist with subcontractor and vendor coordination.
- Review subcontractor scopes of work and help identify scope gaps or conflicts.
- Assist with project scheduling, short-term planning, and tracking of critical activities.
- Participate in project meetings and prepare meeting minutes and follow-up items as needed.
- Track material procurement, lead times, deliveries, and potential scheduling concerns.
- Assist with change orders, pricing requests, and documentation of changes in project scope.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with estimating and cost analysis when needed.
- Monitor project costs and assist Project Managers with budget tracking and forecasting.
- Coordinate with architects and engineers to resolve design and field-related issues.
- Visit project sites regularly to monitor progress and verify that work is being performed in accordance with contract documents.
- Assist with quality-control inspections and documentation.
- Support company safety policies and help identify potential safety concerns on project sites.
- Assist with punch lists, project closeout documentation, warranties, operation and maintenance manuals, and as-built drawings.
- Maintain professional communication with owners, subcontractors, design professionals, and project team members.
- Identify potential project risks and communicate issues to the Project Manager and Superintendent in a timely manner.
- Perform other project-related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Previous commercial construction experience preferred (but not required).
- Understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and building systems.
- Knowledge of commercial construction methods, materials, sequencing, and terminology.
- Organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with field personnel, subcontractors, owners, architects, and engineers.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with construction management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar platforms preferred (but not required).
- Ability to perform construction takeoffs and review project quantities.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as required.

Summary
This position requires a combination of office and construction-site work. The Construction Engineer may be exposed to typical construction-site conditions and must be able to safely navigate active job sites. Some travel between project locations may be required.
Reporting RelationshipThe Construction Engineer typically reports to a Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, or other designated member of the company's project management leadership team.
