About the RoleTEGNA is seeking a full‑time Meteorologist to support the weather forecasting and live news programming for various TEGNA television stations. In this unique role, you will forecast and present weather to viewers across multiple TEGNA markets, primarily serving stations in Texas and the Mid‑South regions. The position requires expertise in all forms of severe weather forecasting and weather patterns unique to these regions.
You will also create online content and contribute to programs on our streaming products. The role is based in any TEGNA market and requires flexibility with scheduling, including weekends, mornings, evenings, and holidays.
- Deliver accurate weather forecasts across multiple platforms, from traditional broadcasts to cutting‑edge digital and streaming services.
- Partner with numerous TEGNA stations to present weather and create weather content that grows audience to all TEGNA platforms.
- Fill in on morning, evening, and weekend shifts to cover staffing needs throughout the year at TEGNA stations across the country.
- Learn the geography and unique weather patterns at a number of TEGNA television markets around the country.
- Create engaging weather explainers and stories to educate our audience.
- Contribute to the growth of our digital and streaming platforms with innovative content.
- Collaborate with a team of passionate weather professionals to push the boundaries of weather storytelling.
- Bachelor's degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Science.
- 4+ years of on‑air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist.
- Coverage expertise in various severe weather environments (tornadoes, hurricanes, wildfires, snow/blizzard, freeze, etc.).
- AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal, a plus.
- Mastery of weather graphics systems (The Weather Company/WSI) and digital media platforms.
- Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to travel to cover breaking weather events or contribute to other markets.
- Ability to work independently and multi‑task confidently under tight deadlines.
- Consistent & proficient at posting content to various websites and social media; computer literacy required, including weather and newsroom computer systems.
- Live field anchoring and reporting skills will set your application apart.

$75,000 – $100,000 USD
