Citizenship and Access Requirements: Must satisfy all Federal Bureau of Prisons suitability, identity-verification, onboarding, training, and institutional-access requirements applicable to the assignment.
Security Requirements: No classified clearance is specified. Employment requires a favorable BOP suitability and access determination, including applicable NCIC, fingerprint, law-enforcement, employment-verification, credit, drug-screening, and SF-85 or SF-85P processes.
Number of FTEs: Two positions totaling approximately 1.6 FTE:
Position 1 is approximately 1.0 FTE at 40 hours per week, and Position 2 is approximately 0.6 FTE at 24 hours per week.
Type of Employment: Position 1 is Full-Time. Position 2 is Part-Time.
Estimated Total Compensation: $43.93 per hour.
Working Hours: Clinic hours are 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Position 1 normally works Monday through Friday, up to 40 hours per week. Position 2 normally works Tuesday through Thursday, approximately 24 hours per week. Each workday includes eight one-hour sessions and a 30-minute unpaid meal period.
Work Arrangement: On-site at the FMC Lexington main institution Dental Clinic. Remote or telework performance is not authorized for these clinical services.
Period of Performance: December 1, 2026 through November 30, 2031, if all four option periods are exercised.
Summary of ServicesThe Registered Dental Hygienist will provide preventive and nonsurgical dental hygiene services to adults in custody at Federal Medical Center Lexington. The position supports patient assessment, prophylaxis, periodontal care, radiography, oral-health education, clinical documentation, infection prevention, instrument accountability, and the safe daily operation of the institution's dental clinic.
Mandatory QualificationsMust hold a current, active, and unrestricted Registered Dental Hygienist license issued by Kentucky or another qualifying compact state.
Must maintain current CPR or Basic Life Support certification acceptable to the Government.
Must provide evidence of all required education, professional qualifications, licenses, certifications, and clinical training.
No prior correctional healthcare experience is required; experience providing preventive and nonsurgical dental hygiene services is preferred.
Must be able to collect, document, and protect patient information accurately in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record and other authorized systems.
Must satisfy communicable-disease, occupational-health, drug-screening, and other clinical-clearance requirements.
Must successfully complete all required law-enforcement checks, background and suitability investigations, orientation, training, and institution-access procedures.
Must be able to work professionally in a secure correctional environment and comply with all clinical, privacy, safety, and institutional requirements.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesReview medical and dental histories, assess patient needs, and identify conditions requiring referral to the dentist or another authorized provider.
Perform dental prophylaxis and remove plaque, calculus, and stains using authorized hand and ultrasonic instrumentation.
Conduct periodontal assessments and charting and provide authorized nonsurgical periodontal therapy within the approved scope of practice.
Provide individualized oral-hygiene instruction, preventive education, and clinically appropriate follow-up recommendations.
Expose, process, and evaluate diagnostic dental radiographs in accordance with applicable safety standards and facility procedures.
Document assessments, treatment, education, referrals, and related services accurately and promptly in the Bureau Electronic Medical Record.
Prepare operatories, instruments, supplies, and equipment before treatment and restore clinical areas after each patient encounter.
Clean, disinfect, package, sterilize, store, and monitor instruments in accordance with infection-prevention and quality-control requirements.
Maintain strict accountability for instruments, sharps, supplies, and Government-furnished property and report discrepancies immediately.
