Location: Lexington VA Health Care System, Lexington, KY

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM

$400 - $420 an hour

Position Overview

The Nuclear Medicine Physician provides high-quality Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT interpretation, therapeutic administration of radiopharmaceuticals, and related clinical services to Veterans. Duties must align with VHA Directive 1105 (Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Safety) and ACR technical standards. At least one provider must meet 10 CFR 35.300 Authorized User requirements.

Key Responsibilities Clinical Duties (Approx. 95%)
  • Interpret Nuclear Medicine studies, including:
    • General Nuclear Medicine
    • SPECT, SPECT-CT
    • PET/CT
    • Thyroid & oncologic imaging
    • Cardiac nuclear imaging
  • Administer radiopharmaceutical therapies as permitted under privileges.
  • Provide post-treatment consultation, follow-up, and complication management.
  • Communicate critical findings to referring clinicians; document all care in the VA EHR.
  • Maintain imaging productivity standards.
  • Review consults, determine appropriate diagnostic pathways, and provide expert recommendations.
Administrative & Professional Responsibilities (Approx. 5%)
  • Participate in Radiation Safety Committee and required quality meetings.
  • Perform peer reviews (approx. 4 hrs/month).
  • Complete required QA/QI documentation, OPPE/FPPE evaluations, and safety reporting.
Required Qualifications
  • MD or DO with completed ACGME-accredited Nuclear Medicine residency or Radiology residency plus Nuclear Medicine fellowship.
  • Board Certification in Nuclear Medicine or Diagnostic Radiology with Nuclear Medicine subspecialty certification.
  • Valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in any U.S. state/territory.
  • Must meet credentialing & privileging requirements under VHA Directives 1100.20 and 1100.21.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in PET/CT, radionuclide therapies, imaging interpretation, and safety protocols.
