Job Summary: The Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences – Christian County is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a plan of work based on locally identified needs that will improve the quality of life for families and individuals in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs that will lead to improved quality of living for families and individuals.
- Plan and implement educational programs focusing on making healthy choices, nurturing families, embracing life as you age, securing financial stability, promoting healthy homes and communities, accessing nutritious food, and empowering community leaders.
- Develop expertise and serve as a resource in family and consumer sciences programming areas including food and nutrition, family resource management, human development and family relations, health, safety, and wellness, leadership development, clothing and textiles, housing and the environment, and home‑based and micro businesses.
- Implement educational programs that strengthen families and individuals.
- Develop and implement leadership programs such as Kentucky Extension Homemakers to build personal and organizational leadership skills.
Qualifications:
- No set minimum academic requirements; preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Family & Consumer Sciences or a related field such as nutrition, human development, or family studies. - No set minimum related experience.
- No required license/registration/certification.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate orally and in writing with groups and individuals and through mass media.
- Proficiency with computers for program delivery and management.
- Ability to visit clientele at sites throughout the county.
- Ability to plan and teach educational programs.
- Demonstrated leadership and the ability to serve as a positive role model.
Physical Requirements:
- Job‑related travel including overnight stays; visiting clientele at sites throughout the county (including farms).
- Standing/walking for long periods.
- Handling of average‑weight objects up to 25 lbs.
Shift: Monday‑Friday (8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.) with evenings and weekends as needed. Most weeks will exceed 40 hours.
