Extension Agent for Family and Consumer Sciences – Muhlenberg County
Location:
Central City, KY.
Job Summary: Develop, implement, and evaluate a plan of work based on locally identified needs to improve the quality of life for families and individuals. Plan and deliver educational programs focused on healthy choices, family nurturing, aging with dignity, financial stability, healthy homes and communities, nutritious food access, and community empowerment. Act as a resource in areas such as food and nutrition, family resource management, human development, health & safety, leadership development, and related fields.
Lead Kentucky Extension Homemakers programs to foster personal and organizational leadership skills.
- Develop and implement a county-wide plan that addresses community needs within family and consumer sciences.
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate educational programs on healthy choices, family nurturing, aging, financial stability, healthy homes, nutrition, and community leadership.
- Serve as a subject‑matter expert and provide technical assistance on family and consumer sciences topics.
- Lead leadership programs such as Kentucky Extension Homemakers to build leadership skills among participants.
- Collaborate with county agents to disseminate practical information related to agriculture, 4‑H, and rural development as required by state statutes.
- Travel as needed across the county, including overnight stays, to visit clientele at farms and other sites.
- Work Monday‑Friday (8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.) with evenings and weekends as needed; most weeks will exceed 40 hours.
- Education: No set minimum; preferred Bachelor's or Master’s in Family & Consumer Sciences or related field.
- Experience: No set minimum; preferred experience in educational program design, community outreach, or related areas.
- Licenses/Certifications: None required.
- Physical Requirements: Travel with overnight stays, standing and walking for extended periods, handling objects up to 25 lbs.
- Background Check: State and national criminal background check and clearance from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services regarding child abuse or neglect records.
- Strong communication skills—oral, written, and mass media.
- Proficiency with computers for program delivery, management, and data tracking.
- Ability to travel to client sites across the county.
- Planning and teaching expertise for educational programs.
- Demonstrated leadership and role‑modeling abilities.
