We are a mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contractor specializing in building automation and industrial piping. Our services include design‑build engineering for new construction and renovation, installation and specialty construction, maintenance, and air balancing, start‑up and energy efficiency services.

Job Summary

DeBra‑Kuempel Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of EMCOR Group, Inc., is seeking an HVAC Controls (BAS) Engineer for its EMCOR Services Automated Controls division in Lexington, KY. This role supports commercial and industrial projects, designing systems architecture, creating control schematics, wiring diagrams, programming and bill of material lists as required by customer needs and project specifications.

Summary

The controls engineer designs building automation systems, sets installation plans, mentors new employees and coordinates with programmers. Training includes 6‑12 months of application engineering and assistance to field technicians.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Attend project turnover meetings with sales and project teams.
  • Design building automation systems and create project submittals/shop drawings using construction plans and specifications.
  • Identify gaps or ambiguities and submit RFIs as required.
  • Establish and maintain unique customer standards in design/build and plan/spec markets.
  • Mentor new employees and assist in their growth (with experience).
  • Write control sequences and coordinate design intent with programmers.
  • Provide operational and technical support/direction to field operations and subcontractors.
  • Obtain field markups and revise shop drawings for owner records.
  • Maintain backups of all project documentation, including record drawings, on construction management software.
  • Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Escalate critical and/or sensitive issues to Engineering Manager / Project Manager with recommended resolution.
  • Comply with all company operating policies, procedures and safety programs.
  • Perform additional assignments as required by the needs of the company.
Preferred

Education and/or Experience
  • Associate’s degree in related engineering/technology field required; bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred.
  • In lieu of an engineering/technical degree, a combination of verifiable DDC specific training and two or more years of experience will be considered.
  • DDC or PLC design experience preferred.

    Strong understanding of low voltage electrical wiring.
  • Experience in engineering, design, or installation/service of HVAC systems.
  • Strong understanding of the fundamentals of commercial electrical, HVAC, and control theory.
  • Knowledge of the construction industry and contract documentation.
Computer Skills
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); advanced spreadsheet experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Visio and other electrical, technical, or construction programs.
  • Familiarity with building architecture and computer networks.
  • Familiarity with third‑party equipment integration over protocols such as BACnet/Modbus.
  • Programming experience is a plus.
