Job Description
We're looking for a full-time, staff PROJECTS ELECTRICAL ENGINEER to join the Mason & Hanger team.
We are looking for a fully competent engineer, who will gain mastery over an entire project, be able to function as the lead engineer (Discipline Lead) on small to medium scale projects and/or completely engineer complex systems on large/campus scale projects. This role will regularly function as the Responsible Engineer Of Record accountable for the technical sufficiency of electrical department project deliverables - limits of responsibility to be determined in concert with more senior department leadership.
This role is hybrid, reporting to any one of our locations:
Virginia Beach, VA;
Lexington, KY;
Huntsville, AL;
San Antonio, TX.
- Create and/or direct others to create edit and check project documents to include plans and BIM models, specifications, and support documents (basis of design).
- Checks work delegated to other engineers and designers on project to ensure scope is documented successfully; serves as Discipline Lead.
- Perform complex engineering calculations; design systems and complete equipment selection.
- Manage electrical department scope for project.
- Main point of contact to clients for electrical department project responsibilities (meetings, conference calls, comment review/responses, etc.). Perform ITRs, travel for meetings and site investigations, cost estimates, and other tasks as required.
- Comply with data protection principles while handling personal, protected and/or Covered Defense Information on behalf of Day & Zimmermann. Data handlers should be trained to follow documented policies, standard operating procedures, and secure practices associated with protecting trusted employee and customer data.
- Skilled and able to direct others in all aspects of electrical design and the preparation of all types of engineering and construction documents including lighting, power, and telecommunications; thorough knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70), ASHRAE 90.1 and other energy codes, and client design criteria (UFCs, OBO Design Standards, GSA); familiar with the Telecommunications Distribution Methods Manual (TDMM); skilled at using engineering calculation spreadsheets and SKM Power
* Tools to model and perform fault calculations; knowledge of other building systems and how they coordinate with electrical systems. - Gaining command of the overall department project scope in pursuit of becoming an independent front‑line project leader (Sr. Engineer); has mastered the primary design methods and calculations; understands the diverse design process and has strong project experience from inception to substantial completion; has a basic understanding of both disciplines within the department (electrical and telecommunications); developing command of department policies and administration including proposal preparation.
- Works with other engineers, disciplines and project managers to ensure quality, and to verify successful execution of the project; responsible as client‑facing representative of electrical department and begins to participate in business development activities; actively supports project manager and department leadership with design scope modifications for assigned projects; actively manages project cost throughout the design; ensures design constructability and coordination with other disciplines necessary for a successful construction project;
ensures all electrical CA responsibilities for project are handled successfully. - Interpersonal savvy and willingness/ability to communicate effectively (oral and writing) with M&H team members as well as clients; able to take direction and guidance from more senior staff and provide direction to less senior staff within the department.
- Must build trusted relationships with the department through maintaining ownership for assigned work and delivering efficient and high‑quality results. Expected to be a proactive learner, responsible to seek out support when needed, identify expectations, check own work output against quality expectations, and pursue opportunities to grow technical capabilities.…
