Job Description & How to Apply Below
The role

Hicks & Mann holds a Kentucky certificate of authorization for land surveying and has been doing this work in Grant County and the five counties around it since 1976. The firm did the county’s Enhanced 911 addressing system in 1992, one of the first countywide addressing systems in Kentucky, and it still holds the records behind it. The survey side is steady work with a deep archive underneath it.

You would seal plats and boundary surveys, plan and run the field work, and hand off to the engineering side on the projects that need both. Most weeks mix field work with courthouse research, calculation and drafting.

What you would do
  • Boundary retracement and record research at the Grant County courthouse and the ones nearby
  • Subdivision platting, minor plats, and lot splits through county and city review
  • Topographic and route survey for site and roadway design
  • ALTA/NSPS land title surveys for commercial transactions
  • Construction staking for streets, utilities, and building pads
  • Easement descriptions, legal descriptions, and exhibits
  • Run the crew, plan the day, and be responsible for what leaves the office under your seal
What we need
  • Kentucky professional land surveyor license, or licensure in another state and eligibility to obtain Kentucky by comity. We will pay for and help with the reciprocity process.
  • Working command of Kentucky boundary law, the rules of the Board of Licensure, and the minimum standards in 201 KAR 18:150
  • Robotic total station and GNSS field work, and the judgment to know which one the job wants
  • Comfort producing a finished drawing yourself in AutoCAD or Carlson, not just marking one up
  • A valid driver’s license. Field work is an essential function of the role and is performed outdoors year round, on uneven ground.
What helps
  • Crew chief or party chief experience, and a track record training the people under you
  • Experience with public clients: fiscal courts, water districts, and small cities
  • Familiarity with northern Kentucky records and the way this part of the state is described
  • Any drone or scanning experience. There is room to bring it into the practice.
Compensation

Pay depends on licensure and experience and we will put a number on the table on the first call rather than making you guess. Field vehicle and survey equipment provided. This is a W-2 position with paid time off.

Equal opportunity

Hicks & Mann, Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. Hiring decisions are made on qualifications, experience and the needs of the work, without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal or Kentucky law.
