Web Development Assistant

Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) – Bering Straits Professional Services, a company within the BSNC family, is seeking a qualified Web Development Assistant to join our team in Lexington, Kentucky. The role focuses on assisting day‑to‑day IT maintenance and operations while developing and maintaining web applications and internal tooling.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintenance of all IT systems ranging from printers to web servers and networking equipment.
  • Handle IT helpdesk ticket resolution and assist the Sysadmin with related tasks.
  • Collaborate with senior Web Developer on website and application design, software upgrades, and implementations.
  • Test and maintain back‑end and front‑end applications.
  • Work with internal clients and the IT department to implement industry‑standard solutions for both hardware and software.
  • Continuously expand knowledge of current technologies, frameworks, and programming trends.
  • Provide constructive feedback and communicate ideas to improve systems and operations.
Qualifications – Experience, Education, and Certification
  • Great interpersonal & team skills.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience in IT and/or software development.
  • Basic understanding of hardware maintenance and physical networking.
  • Functional understanding of web design and development principles.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving ability, with a creative mindset.
  • Passion for technology and continual learning.
  • Ability to learn quickly and stay up to date with the latest technologies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
  • Experience with basic IT troubleshooting and development technologies.
  • Strong planning, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
Preferred
  • CompTIA or related professional technical certifications or equivalent degree(s).
  • Experience with JavaScript/Type Script, C#/.NET, SQL, HTML/CSS, Entity Framework, and MVC.
  • Experience with Angular and Git; IT helpdesk/ticket resolution experience.

Physical Requirements

The position requires maintaining a constant state of mental alertness at all times. Physical demands include occasional bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods; most time is spent sitting with frequent opportunity to move.

DOT Covered/Safety‑Sensitive Role Requirements
  • This position is not subject to federal requirements regarding Department of Transportation “safety‑sensitive” functions.
  • This position does perform DOT “safety‑sensitive” functions (as defined under 49 CFR Part 40) and is subject to all federal requirements related to the Department of Transportation for those performing, or on‑call to perform, “safety‑sensitive” functions. Employees must provide a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
Work Environment

The job is performed in an office setting with exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, mouse, and multi‑line telephone system. Occasional travel may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibilities.

Additional Qualifying Factors

As a condition of employment, a pre‑employment drug screening and acceptable background check results are required. If applicable, the candidate must obtain the appropriate clearance levels and be able to access military installations.
