Position:
On-Call Field Archaeologist
This is an on-call, hourly position. Hourly rates are competitive, depending on North American CRM experience and regional archaeological experience.
WSP's Cultural Resources Management Team is located across the United States, with over 30 cultural resources professionals housed in our offices in Louisville, Kentucky;
Lexington, Kentucky;
Kansas City, Missouri;
Ballwin, Missouri; and Jefferson City, Missouri.
We have immediate openings for on-call Field Archaeologists with a long-term Phase III archaeological data recovery project at five multi-component Pre-Contact archaeological sites. The sites are located in close proximity to each other and contain components dating from the Late Archaic through the Late Pre-Contact periods.
Candidates local to Arkansas, Missouri, eastern Oklahoma, and eastern Kansas are ideal due to work location and schedule, but all qualified applicants will be considered. WSP also has ongoing Phase I, II, and III work in other states with additional upcoming work.
Responsibilities- Assist with multiple Phase III data recovery projects (including Phase I and II work), with specific tasks including:
- Archaeological test unit and shovel test excavation;
- Excavation of cultural features;
- Recovery and identification of archaeological artifacts and other materials;
- Use archaeological field forms to record data, including type and number of artifacts, soil color (Munsell) and soil texture, and other relevant information;
- Work effectively as part of a team;
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures;
- Strictly abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Undergraduate degree in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field;
- Archaeological field school or similar archaeological field experience;
- Self‑motivated, physically able to conduct all aspects of fieldwork in all weather conditions, and able to follow instructions.
- Prior experience with Pre‑Contact archaeological sites in Arkansas, eastern Oklahoma, and the surrounding region;
- Pre‑Contact lithic artifact identification and analysis.
