This hands‑on leadership role focuses on coordinating purchasing activities, managing product categories, maintaining accurate pricing, and supporting effective inventory management throughout the Grocery Department.

Working closely with the Grocery Department Manager, this position helps support thoughtful product selection, competitive pricing, product availability, and department profitability while providing leadership, training, and daily operational support to grocery buyers.

What You’ll Do

In this role, you'll help lead purchasing and inventory operations within the Grocery Department by:

  • Managing, supporting, and working alongside grocery buyers
  • Coordinating purchasing activities, ordering processes, and inventory replenishment
  • Assisting with employee scheduling, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluations
  • Providing leadership, coaching, accountability, and ongoing development to the buying team
  • Overseeing product pricing, price updates, and the accuracy of product information and retail pricing
  • Supporting category management, including product selection, assortment planning, and product performance analysis
  • Monitoring product costs, margins, inventory turns, sales trends, and purchasing efficiency
  • Assisting with identifying new products, evaluating underperforming items, and maintaining a product assortment that reflects customer needs and Co‑op values
  • Supporting vendor relationships, product sourcing, purchasing terms, and promotional opportunities
  • Ensuring accurate ordering, invoicing, receiving documentation, vendor credits, and inventory records
  • Monitoring out‑of‑stocks, overstock, shrink, and inventory performance
  • Coordinating promotional pricing, product changes, and seasonal purchasing initiatives
  • Supporting inventory counts, reporting, and accurate inventory management systems
  • Collaborating with the Grocery Operations Manager to support product availability, merchandising, and pricing accuracy on the sales floor
  • Assisting the Grocery Department Manager with purchasing strategies, department financial goals, and operational improvements
What We’re Looking For

We're excited to meet someone who:

  • Has 5 years of grocery, retail purchasing, buying, or related operational experience
  • Has at least 1 year of management or supervisory experience
  • Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Understands grocery purchasing, inventory management, product pricing, and category management
  • Has experience working with vendors, purchasing systems, and inventory processes
  • Is comfortable using spreadsheets, inventory management software, and sales reporting tools
  • Has strong attention to detail and accuracy when managing pricing and product information
  • Can analyze sales trends, margins, and product movement to support purchasing decisions
  • Enjoys training, coaching, and developing employees
  • Works effectively in a fast‑paced environment with multiple priorities
  • Is reliable, adaptable, and solution‑focused
  • Has a strong interest in natural and organic foods and cooperative values
  • Is available to work flexible schedules, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Can safely lift up to 50 lbs and work in varied retail and storage environments
