About the Job

A Service Technician Diesel I is responsible for performing basic maintenance and service on diesel engines and related components. This role may involve diagnosing issues, conducting inspections, servicing equipment, and completing necessary repairs. Service Technicians Diesel I typically work in settings such as construction sites or shops. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently are important qualities for individuals in this role.

• Basic understanding of service intervals.
• Locate fluid types, capacities, and special instructions in the manufacturer’s digital service manual.
• Service, grease, and lube all mobile equipment.
• Inspect all mobile equipment to identify and troubleshoot the cause of errors.
• Perform repairs as needed to address any issues.
• Handle, install, position, and move parts, materials, and industrial hand tools safely throughout the shop and plant.
• Ensure correct and accurate documentation is completed on a daily and monthly basis regarding all mobile equipment.
• Enter and maintain service reports for all the mobile equipment in written or electronic form.
• Engage in physical activities that involve whole-body movement and significant use of arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials.

• Ability to work overtime and extended hours, including weekends, depending on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
• Must know industrial tools, their uses and maintenance.
• Subject matter expert with the ability to apply knowledge and experience in situations.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Communication - Ability to clearly and effectively convey information, ideas, and messages to others in both written and verbal formats; can express thoughts clearly, listen actively, understand the audience, and adapt the message.
• Safety Awareness - Ability to recognize, understand, and adhere to safety protocols and procedures; proactive in identifying hazards and mitigating risks to maintain safety for self and others.
• Attention to Detail - Ability to thoroughly and accurately complete tasks, ensuring no aspects are overlooked; meticulous and precise when handling information and delivering work.
• Collaboration - Ability to work effectively with others to achieve common goals through teamwork and open communication.
• Technical Expertise - Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues; ability to identify signs of malfunction and report them.

• High School diploma or equivalent required.

• Additional vocational/trade school training in a mechanical field is preferred.

• Knowledge of general principles and practices of servicing heavy construction equipment is preferred.
• Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands.
• Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate exposure to loud noises.
• Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
• Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times, in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
