Job Summary

Prevention, Outreach, and Wellness Education Resources (POWER) is seeking a Prevention Specialist – Hazing, Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD), and Gambling. Leveraging best practices in prevention, this position will lead the development and implementation of comprehensive hazing prevention efforts while also supporting substance misuse prevention and education and gambling awareness programs to enhance student well-being. The role focuses on designing and delivering evidence‑informed initiatives aimed at fostering a safer and healthier campus community, with emphasis on hazing prevention, alcohol and drug education, gambling awareness, and harm reduction.

The Prevention Specialist will engage the campus community through trainings, presentations, awareness campaigns, and events, and will coordinate with campus partners to ensure compliance with institutional policies, state and federal regulations, and the Stop Campus Hazing Act.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead hazing prevention initiatives and develop integrated bystander intervention strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with reporting requirements and institutional policies related to hazing, substance misuse, and gambling.
  • Design and deliver trainings, presentations, and awareness campaigns for students, staff, and community partners.
  • Coordinate with campus stakeholders to provide tailored support and resources that meet diverse student needs.
  • Apply evidence‑based prevention and restorative practices to enhance program effectiveness.
  • Collaborate both independently and with cross‑functional teams to advance campus wellness goals.
Candidate Qualifications
  • Strong understanding of evidence‑based prevention and restorative practices.
  • Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to work autonomously and collaboratively.
  • At least 3 years of related experience in campus wellness or prevention programs.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., counseling, psychology, education).1
  • Ability to serve students from diverse backgrounds and effectively render services in a culturally responsive manner.
Physical Requirements

Lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 25 lbs; sitting for long periods; performing repetitive motion tasks; and communicating effectively with a diverse student population.

Shift

Monday–Friday; 8:00 am–5:00 pm (40 hrs/week) with limited nights and weekends.
