Title: Insurance Biller

Principle duties and responsibilities- Submits clean claims to ensure all edits are passed prior to sending claims to insurance companies.
- Answers inquiries regarding claims from patients and insurance companies.
- Satisfies accounts after insurance payments for patient responsibilities.
- Assists with admissions, discharges, and transfers as needed.
- Follows up on aged accounts until resolved with payors.
- Calls patients or insurance companies for claim processing.
- Appeals denials as appropriate with insurance companies.
- Maintains the Business Office procedure book with updates as department processes change.
- Registers patients and processes payments by check, cash, or credit cards both in person and over the phone as needed.
- Answers phone calls via the switchboard and routes them appropriately throughout the facility.
- Ensures patients and visitors follow current infection control guidelines.
- Responsible for ensuring the environment meets appropriate governing body standards.
- Performs duties that could include blood exposure and risk to blood borne pathogens (e.g., lacerations, handling blood-contaminated items).
- Maintains patient and staff safety through the use of patient safety tools (e.g., Teamstepps, Just Culture).
- Regular attendance at the assigned work location is required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Ability to read, write, perform basic accounting, and use standard office equipment and computer software as typically acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must be at least 19 years old to sign legal documents.
- Ability to stay updated on changes with federal and state rules and regulations.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding protected and sensitive information.
- Ability to solve problems independently using analytical and logical thinking.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret reports, policies, procedures, and governmental regulations.
- Ability to complete reports and correspondence at a professional level.
- Respond promptly to inquiries and complaints from patients, employees, and regulatory agencies in collaboration with supervisor and administration.
- Effective communication skills with individuals from diverse backgrounds and educational levels.
- Ability to organize and present information clearly and respond to questions from employees and external groups.
- Successful completion of required training on standard precaution protocols and their application during duties.
- Works in a typical office environment with minimal exposure to noise, dust, or temperature extremes.
- Spends significant time at a desk, writing and working on a computer (approximately 95% of work time).
- Requires fine motor coordination for tasks up to 70% of the time.
- Handles boxes weighing up to 36 pounds, transported using a dolly over approximately 250 feet; also handles 50-pound boxes of printer paper.
