Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship program gives you an entry point to a career in health care by guiding you in taking steps towards becoming a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) Certified Pharmacy Technician and helping you maintain the high level of skill required in the pharmacy care industry.

Base

Pay Range

$17.00/hr – $20.50/hr

Responsibilities
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and maintain accurate records.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers when PTCB certified.
  • Model and deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience.
Customer Experience
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Model and share customer service best practices with all team members.
  • Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
Operations
  • Assist in the practice of pharmacy under the supervision of the pharmacist and review the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
  • Enter patient and drug information, fill prescriptions, verify medications, and handle prescription errors.
  • Adhere to company policies on good faith dispensing and error reporting.
  • Register sales, handle cash, and assist customers in the OTC aisle when possible.
  • Handle telephone calls that do not require pharmacist attention, including physician calls.
  • Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services.
  • Support inventory management activities and maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques.
  • Assist in clinical services such as blood/urine sample handling and coordination with Walgreens healthcare clinics.
  • Assist in community outreach and relationship building with local medical providers.
  • Maintain a clean, stocked, and orderly pharmacy department.
  • Comply with all company policies and complete special assignments as required.
Training & Personal Development
  • Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated training program or state‑required certification.
  • Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits.
  • Maintain knowledge and skills in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
  • Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (except in Puerto Rico).
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
  • Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription counting, measuring, and weighing.
  • Prefer strong computer skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
  • Prefer PTCB certification.
