Overview
Public Safety Officer at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist (Lexington Medical Center – Lexington, NC). The primary focus is maintaining the physical safety of patients, visitors, and staff while supporting compassionate patient care. You will work closely with healthcare professionals and Public Safety partners to ensure a safe, secure, and caring environment.
Schedule & CompensationSchedule Details: Positions are available across all shifts with varying schedules. Shift preferences are considered when possible but can change based on operational needs. Overtime and shift differential opportunities may be available.
Pay Range: $19.45 – $29.20 per hour.

- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the Division of Motor Vehicles.
- NC:
Unarmed Guard License issued by NC Protective Services within 1 year, maintained through training and competency assessments. - Stop the Bleed Certification obtained within 1 year of hire date.
- Security Officer Healthcare Certification (CHSO) obtained within 2 years of appointment.
- Provide security services with a customer‑service approach, focusing on professionalism, fairness, and compassion in accordance with policies, procedures, and training.
- Present a professional and service‑oriented appearance and demeanor; maintain department uniform and equipment in good repair.
- Conduct routine patrols to ensure safety and security, including inspections for vulnerabilities, audits of safety measures, patient valuables management, and contraband searches. Assist patients, visitors, and team members with information, directions, and physical help.
- Manage traffic control, monitor visitor conduct, and confront unauthorized persons for questioning.
- Respond to workplace violence, service calls, and incidents involving combative or threatening patients or visitors.
- Serve as the primary resource for de‑escalation, utilizing the use of force when necessary (e.g., conducted electrical weapon, handcuffing).
- Plan, prevent, practice, and respond to emergencies such as lost or abducted infants/children, fire, and active threats. Respond immediately to emergency and crisis situations, physically intervening when necessary.
- Investigate incidents on property, complete timely and accurate reports, address complaints, and provide documentation.
- Liaise with federal, state, and local law enforcement and first‑responder agencies; coordinate, brief, and monitor law‑enforcement prisoner patient guard activities.
- Maintain current training standards in radio communications, verbal de‑escalation, hemorrhage control (e.g., STOP the BLEED), CPR, restraints, and conducted energy weapons; keep up with any new equipment or training requirements.
- Assist with exterior traffic and crowd control, including parking enforcement, valet parking assistance, and vehicular assistance.
