Position: Deputy (Court Services/Civil Process/Warrants)

Deputies assigned to the Civil Process/Warrants Division are responsible for executing civil and criminal processes, mental transports, detention orders, court security, bond court responsibilities, and more. This role demands professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under pressure. Deputies enforce all applicable local, state, and federal laws while maintaining public trust and safety.

  • Key Responsibilities:

    • Execute and process civil paperwork including subpoenas, summons, claims and deliveries, and court orders.
    • Investigate and serve criminal warrants and detention orders.
    • Provide courtroom security and act as liaison between local magistrates and the Sheriff’s Department.
    • Executes psychiatric orders and transports.
    • Participate in court proceedings and testify as needed.
    • Prepare and maintain reports, documentation, and case files.
    • Maintain issued equipment, including firearms and patrol vehicles.
    • Participate in community engagement and maintain positive public relations.
    • Attend training and maintain certification in firearms and law enforcement practices.
    • Be available for overtime and support other divisions, including detention center duties.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Must be at least 21 years old.
    • Must be a U.S. citizen and reside in South Carolina (or relocate upon hire).
    • Possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
    • Must hold one of the following:
    • Class 1 Law Enforcement Certification from the SC Criminal Justice Academy
    • Law enforcement certification from another state (with ability to obtain SC certification)
    • Must be physically able to exert up to 100 lbs. occasionally, and perform duties requiring stamina, agility, and strength.
    • May be exposed to various environmental and workplace hazards, including extreme temperatures, chemicals, mechanical parts, and intense noise.
