Full-Time Dayshift LPN, RN (Healthcare)

AdministrativeFunctions
- Direct the day to day functions of the nursing assistants in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long term care facility.
- Ensure that all nursing personnel assigned to you comply with the written policies and procedures established by this facility.
- Periodically review the department's policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc., and make recommendations for revisions.
- Plan shifts, services, programs, and activities with assigned nursing staff and support personnel.
- Maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual to reflect day to day nursing procedures and ensure compliance with its procedures.
- Make written and oral reports/recommendations concerning shift activities as required.
- Coordinate with other resident services to maintain the resident's total regimen of care and ensure staff compliance with job descriptions.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of the facility's quality assurance program for the nursing service department and in facility surveys as requested.
- Review and update the resident discharge plan and assist in planning the nursing services portion of the discharge plan as necessary.
- Interpret department policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors, and government agencies as required.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required and complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
- Complete resident charge slips, maintain the Daily Census Report, and perform related administrative duties including charting and medical forms.
- Protect resident information and maintain security of access credentials and health information; report violations per facility policy.
- Complete and file required recordkeeping forms/charts upon resident admission, transfer, and discharge.
- Encourage physicians to review and sign orders and progress notes; record physician orders and transcribe them to resident charts and care plans as required.
- Document care and resident responses clearly in charts; file accident/incident reports as required and coordinate with the Director as needed.
- Record diet orders and communicate changes to Food Services; report discrepancies to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Ensure documentation of changes to unauthorized discharges and transfer forms; sign and date all entries in the medical record.
- Prepare and administer medications as ordered; verify resident identity before administration; ensure medications are not cross-administered to other residents.
- Maintain adequate stock of medications, supplies, and equipment; order as needed per policy.
- Maintain accurate narcotic records, report discrepancies, review medication cards, and manage automatic stop orders prior to last dosage.
- Dispose of drugs and narcotics per procedures.
- Participate in performance evaluations, determine staffing needs, and make recommendations to the Nurse Supervisor.
- Provide leadership to nursing personnel, develop assignments, and supervise daily rounds to ensure standard of care.
- Ensure CNAs are enrolled in appropriate training and supervised; meet with shift staff regularly to address issues and improve services.
- Promote adherence to department policies; foster teamwork and a positive unit environment.
- Coordinate with interdepartmental staff to maintain nursing services and activities aligned with resident needs.
- Inform and prepare nursing staff for new admissions; greet and orient residents and families; escort admissions as needed.
- Coordinate diagnostic and therapeutic services; consult with physicians on treatment plans and follow the resident care plans.
- supervise direct nursing care to ensure it is provided by licensed personnel or qualified aides and that care aligns with the care plan.
- Implement restorative and rehabilitative programs and coordinate social/activity programs with nursing schedules.
- Inspect care areas daily for cleanliness and safety; perform procedures and administer professional services as required.
- Use restraints only per policy; collect specimens for lab tests as ordered; monitor and respond to changes in resident condition.
- Notify physicians and families of incidents or changes; assist with post mortem procedures when applicable.
- Develop, conduct, and schedule in-service training; implement orientation for new employees; standardize methods to accomplish tasks.
