We have an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Occupational Therapist to join our Mental Health Team at HMP Garth. HMP Garth has a capacity of around 800 males and is a category B prison located in Lancashire. As an Occupational Therapist you have experience working within mental health and managing your own caseload; you will be based within the healthcare department and also be required to work on the prison wing.

Salary

This position is permanent and you will receive an annual salary between £43,609 - £49,175 per annum, which will be pro rota depending on experience.

Main duties of the job

As an Occupational Therapist, your responsibilities will vary. You will:

  • Be responsible for the provision of occupational therapy assessment, treatment and evaluation.
  • Provide visible and professional support to ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care and rehabilitation aimed at improving or maintaining independence.
  • Work with a caseload of patients with varying difficulties including complete health and social care needs; respond effectively to the changing needs of the patient caseload, managing the sometimes conflicting priorities of prevention of admission and discharge.
  • Assess and order equipment as identified by patient need and allocate work to OT assistant or care staff as necessary. Establish communication networks with other team members, patients and other health and social care agencies, attending joint visits with other professionals as required.

  • Diploma/degree in occupational therapy with current professional qualification (HCPC)
  • Post-registration experience and evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Understanding of the complexities of multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working
  • Understanding of clinical governance, health and safety, QOF, EBP and national standards

Although not essential, ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
