Seward County Community College is a two-year institution offering 45 programs of study, including Adult Basic Education, certificate programs and Associate of Arts, Science, General Studies and Applied Sciences degrees. Ranked in the top 5% of more than 1,100 accredited community colleges in the U.S. by the Aspen Institute, SCCC serves a student body of 2,500+ students ranging in age from 15 to 85, in a county with the highest foreign‑born percentage population in the U.S., and a rural service area of about 50,997 in seven Southwest Kansas counties as well as neighboring counties in southeastern Colorado, the Oklahoma and Texas Panhandles.
ResponsibilitiesThis position is responsible for providing leadership, management, and direction for a comprehensive residence life program and ensuring the college is providing housing that is safe and conducive to a positive learning environment. This position will work directly with other student service areas and athletics to implement a comprehensive residence life program.
- Provide the overall business management of the residence halls so that the students are charged and billed appropriately. Annually review and update student housing policies, rules, regulations, and housing contracts.
- Coordinates housing registration, room assignments and changes. Maintain student records. Enforces college rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and inspects buildings for illegal entry and/or vandals to prevent theft or destruction of property and/ or equipment.
- Coordinates overall security of campus and housing facilities and compiling the annual Campus Clery Act report.
- Communicates with students, faculty, and staff about security concerns, responds to emergencies and alarms, and implements comprehensive public safety programs.
- Select, train, and supervise housing staff, resident assistants (RAs) and security personnel. Provide ongoing professional development and support throughout the year. Oversees maintenance of activity logs, incident reports, preparations for team or individual travel, and overall Emergency Preparedness.
- Conducts performance reviews and creates professional development opportunities for housing staff, RAs and security personnel.
- Supervise and monitor the student housing halls and grounds for unlawful or inappropriate activity. Responsible for disciplinary intervention such as assessing fines, warnings, suspensions, and/or expulsion from student housing.
- Create a residential community that enhances the students’ academic, developmental and personal lives. Encourages student participation in residence hall activities and college-sponsored events, clubs, and organizations.
A Bachelor’s degree. Master’s Degree preferred. Six months to two years of experience in college housing (i.e., resident assistant or management) and/or supervisory experience in a related educational field.
