Sports Medicine Physician Assistant
Position Summary: The Physician Assistant provides patient care support in outpatient clinic and hospital settings under the supervision of a physician or surgeon. Responsibilities include evaluation, treatment, and procedural assistance in accordance with Illinois PA Practice Act and the State of Illinois standards.
Responsibilities- Assist surgeon during major/minor procedures, perform patient positioning, draping, wound care, and closure.
- Perform initial patient assessments, history, and physical examinations; draft and sign orders with supervising physician.
- Provide inpatient care: rounding, consults, discharge coordination, and postoperative wound management.
- Conduct office duties: independent patient encounters, joint aspirations/injections, cast/splint application, and removal of staples or sutures.
- Manage documentation: progress notes, operative notes, discharge summaries; maintain EHR compliance with ICD‑10 and billing.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary communication, support triage of physician calls, and prescribe medications under protocols.
- Participate in on‑call assignments and maintain availability for urgent inpatient needs.
- Perform initial and ongoing clinical assessment, treat, and develop plans in accordance with physician supervision.
- Perform minor procedures, traction, cast, splint, joint injection, and wound care as approved.
- Assist in the operating room as first or second assistant on approved procedures.
- Document and write orders for treatment, diagnostics, and medications, including controlled substances with physician co‑signature.
- Engage in full‑body motion, lifting patients up to 50 lbs and lifting items up to 30 lbs.
- Work under stressful and irregular hours; frequent exposure to bodily fluids and blood‑borne pathogens.
- Travel to multiple associated hospital sites.
- Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with residency completion.
- Active Illinois PA license, up‑to‑date; NCCPA certification.
- Preferred training in orthopedics; ACLS and CPR current.
- Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies.
- Minimum two years in physician office or hospital setting.
- Ability to make independent patient‑care decisions under supervision.
- Experience with surgical assistance and postoperative care.
- Proficient with managed‑care, Medicare, EHR software, and practice management.
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Capacity to lift patients, multitask, and prioritize in a fast‑paced environment.
- Self‑starter with strong time‑management.
Base salary $102K‑$140K annually based on skills and experience. Eligible for medical, dental, vision, life & AD&D, short/long term disability, 401(k) with company match & profit sharing, wellness programs, health savings, flexible savings, , accident and critical illness benefits.
