Description

Assist instructional staff in providing a well‑organized, smoothly functioning learning environment that enables students to take full advantage of the instructional program.

Qualifications
  • Certification:
    Valid Illinois Professional Educator’s, Paraprofessional, or Substitute License registered in Lake County.
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent and 60 college credit hours.
  • Experience:

    Prior classroom or similar experience (preferred: Spanish fluency).
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by staff.
  • Assist staff in devising and implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Assist staff in implementing behavioral strategies for individual students and assist with students in crisis.
  • Accompany students to special mainstreaming and/or exploratory classes, facilitating their full participation under the direction of staff and in accordance with the contents of the student’s IEP (where applicable).
  • Administer, score, and record achievement and diagnostic tests as staff recommends for individual students.
  • Assist with equipment, technology, and augmentative communication devices used with students as listed on IEP or as directed by staff.
  • Assist students with completion of instructional assignments, distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other instructional materials, correct papers, supervise testing and makeup work, guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by staff.
  • Check and record student attendance as necessary; assist in data collection and recording of student performance as requested by staff.
  • Assist with the supervision of students throughout the school day, including during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, transitions to other classes, lunch/recess, field trips, and community outings.
  • Assist students with daily living skills such as dressing, undressing, lunch, snack, clean‑up routines, toileting, and washing routines; also assist with special equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, gait belts, etc.).
  • Alert staff to any problem or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students, including functioning as a mandated reporter.
  • Assist with students’ movement throughout the day as directed by special education staff and/or administration.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as assigned by staff, principal, supervisor, director, or other administrator.
  • Support the establishment of mutual respect and equal human dignity across the entire school community; welcome inclusion, equity, and diversity; and commit to the success of all students.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities

Technical: Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks, databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications, etc.

Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and parents; strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills; empathetic, humanistic, and open‑minded; strategic thinker; must work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration.

Physical Demands

Manual dexterity required for skilled and accurate physical operations; handling of average‑weight materials or equipment; work may expose to moderate or adverse elements.

Varies from 7:15 a.m. – 3:55 p.m. depending on assignment
Salary Range: $105 per day
