DESCRIPTIONEnables each child to pursue his education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of his/her regular teacher.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES- Reports to the building principal or school secretary upon arrival at the building.
- Reviews with the principal, department head, or team leader all plans and schedules to be followed during the teaching day.
- Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned.
- Teachers the lesson outlined and described in the Substitute Teacher’s Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consults as appropriate with the school principal, department head, or team leader before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the Substitute Teacher’s Guide.
- Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class and during lunch and recess periods.
- Reports in writing, on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
- Follows all policies, rules, and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the School Principal.
- Certification:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator's or Substitute License registered in Lake County. - Education:
Bachelor's Degree (Required). - Experience:
Classroom teaching experience (Preferred). - Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources; design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities; assess student learning.
- Must create an environment of respect and report, establish a culture for learning, manage classroom procedures, manage student behavior, and organize physical space.
- Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
- Reflects on teaching, maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism.
Competent in digital environments; iPads, Chromebooks, databases, spreadsheets, publishing software, Microsoft Office, Google applications, etc.
Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses, and community. Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills. Empathetic, humanistic, open‑minded. Strong sense of teamwork. Strategic thinker. Must work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration. Must communicate effectively in both English and Spanish. Must exhibit sound judgment and strong organizational skills.
