Qualifications
  • License/Certification:
    Illinois Professional Educator License valid for Kindergarten with English as a Second Language endorsement
  • Education:

    Required - Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience:

    Required - Teaching or student teaching experience
  • Experience:

    Preferred - Teaching or student teaching experience in an elementary ESL and/or bilingual classroom(s)
Essential Performance Responsibilities
  • Has command of the subject matter and effectively implements the Woodland District 50 curriculum including Response to Intervention (RtI) and Common Core Standards
  • Instructs and motivates English Language Learners (ELL) to develop competencies in listening, speaking, reading and writing English and Spanish (as required)
  • Uses a variety of instructional techniques and differentiates instruction to meet the individual needs and interests of the students
  • Adheres to the guidelines in the Woodland School District 50 Staff Handbook
  • Maintains a positive school climate and supports PBIS
  • Orders materials and supplies within budgetary constraints per district procedures
  • Works cooperatively with other staff members and collaborates with staff and paraprofessionals to meet the needs of students with special needs
  • Instructs assigned classes at the times and locations assigned
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil conduct aligned with the Parent/Student Handbook and PBIS
  • Evaluates and maintains records including attendance, performance, and grades; posts grades in district systems
  • Communicates regularly with parents and school personnel regarding student progress
  • Supervises students in classroom, hallways and events as required
  • Attends team, department, faculty meetings and professional development
  • Keeps up to date with developments in the subject area and adjusts instructional plans accordingly
  • Follows school and district policies including confidentiality
  • Develops lesson plans and materials compatible with ELL and dual language needs
  • Provides learning experiences to develop English (and Spanish as required) language skills
  • Provides individualized and small group instruction as needed
  • Confers with the principal, Teaching and Learning Department and ELL Coordinator
  • Administers procedures for identifying and evaluating bilingual/ESL/dual language students
  • Coordinates in-service workshops for staff and parents as appropriate
  • Keeps parents informed on student progress and program activities
  • Develops pupil understanding of both native and United States cultures
  • Evaluates progress in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English and Spanish (as required)
  • Manages materials and maintains inventory records
  • Identifies pupil needs and works with staff to support language acquisition
  • Participates in curriculum and bilingual/ESL/dual language programs
  • Translates vital home/school communications when feasible
  • Maintains professional competence through in-service education and growth activities
