Position OverviewThe Dual Language Teacher plays a vital role in cultivating biliteracy, bilingualism, and biculturalism for all learners. This educator designs and delivers high-quality instruction aligned to District Standards, English Language Proficiency Standards, and the District’s Dual Language Program model. Through data‑informed instruction, collaboration, and culturally responsive practices, the Dual Language Teacher supports students’ academic growth, language development, and sense of belonging.
In addition, the Dual Language Teacher serves as a resource and partner to colleagues and families, promoting effective second language acquisition practices and fostering strong home–school connections.
- Deliver core instruction in Spanish and English for designated content areas, aligned to district curriculum and program models
- Design engaging, standards-based lessons that support literacy development in both the minority and majority languages
- Use formative and summative assessment data to guide instruction, interventions, and enrichment
- Collaborate with grade‑level teams, dual language colleagues, and district staff to support diverse learners
- Contribute to the development and refinement of bilingual curriculum and instructional interventions
- Serve as a cultural and linguistic bridge between English Learners, families, and the school community
- Communicate regularly and effectively with families regarding student progress, expectations, and language development
- Participate in school and district improvement initiatives
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and instructional goals
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment
- Build strong, positive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the community
- Demonstrate flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and continuous learning
- Serve as a positive role model through empathy, fairness, consistency, and enthusiasm for teaching
- Integrate instructional technology to enhance learning experiences
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement(s), including Bilingual Approval/Endorsement
- Fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and appreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity
- Ability to effectively integrate instructional technology into teaching and learning
- Passion for education and working with multilingual learners
