Position OverviewThe Elementary School Music Teacher fosters a love of music while building foundational skills in rhythm, melody, movement, and performance. Through engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction, this educator supports students' creativity, collaboration, and self-expression. The Elementary Music Teacher creates a joyful, inclusive learning environment and works collaboratively with colleagues and families to support the whole child.
Key Responsibilities- Design and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned elementary music instruction
- Introduce students to basic music concepts such as rhythm, melody, harmony, movement, and listening
- Integrate singing, movement, instruments, and creative exploration into daily lessons
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners, including multilingual students
- Use formative assessments to monitor progress and guide instruction
- Create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive classroom environment
- Establish clear routines and expectations that support positive student behavior
- Manage materials, transitions, and instructional time effectively
- Foster respectful, culturally responsive interactions that honor students' backgrounds and experiences
- Design engaging lessons that promote active participation and curiosity
- Use effective questioning and feedback to support student growth
- Adjust instruction responsively based on student needs and interests
- Encourage student confidence, creativity, and collaboration through music
- Maintain accurate instructional and student records
- Communicate regularly with families about learning goals and student progress
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists to support integrated learning
- Participate in school and district initiatives and professional learning
- Demonstrate professionalism, flexibility, and a child-centered mindset
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate endorsement(s)
- Passion for teaching music at the elementary level
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive and inclusive practices
- Ability to effectively incorporate instructional technology
- Spanish-speaking preferred
