Patient Access Representative I – PRN Emergency (3rd Shift)

Advocate Health Care is seeking a Patient Access Representative I to work a PRN 3rd shift emergency schedule. The role focuses on patient registration, insurance eligibility, revenue cycle support, and customer service in a fast‑paced clinical environment.

$20.40/hr – $30.60/hr

• Collect and verify demographic, insurance, and clinical information for all payer classes.
• Maintain accurate patient records, assign unique medical record numbers, and secure interpreter assistance when needed.
• Interpret and validate physician orders, apply proper accommodation codes, and establish account parameters for accurate billing.
• Validate insurance eligibility, confirm patient eligibility for service, and complete the Medicare Questionnaire for all Medicare patients.
• Explain insurance benefits, self‑pay balances, and payment options to patients, negotiate resolutions, and process payments.
• Initiate electronic and telephone inquiries to insurance payers, obtain authorizations and referrals, and ensure timely authorizations for service approvals.
• Perform revenue cycle activities that prevent denials, increase cash collections, and manage account balances.
• Assist Pre‑Access staff with reminder calls and fax naming, monitor work queues, and perform special projects as assigned.
• Deliver excellent customer service at registration, greet patients, introduce yourself, explain registration process, and resolve concerns using AIDET principles.

• IHS diploma or equivalent and 2–3 years related experience in a healthcare setting (revenue cycle preferred).

• Data entry assessment completion, organizational and prioritization skills, interviewing, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Intermediate math and business writing, computer literate, cash drawer counting, and customer service skills.

• Fast‑paced environment, EMT/stand/row, visual acuity, manual dexterity, computer data entry, 10‑lb file handling, 50‑lb cart, noise exposure, weekend/holiday shifts, and rotational work.
• Lifting up to 35 lbs; patient handling equipment used when lifting >35 lbs.
