Minimum Requirements:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program;
  • Registered Professional Nurse (RN) License;
  • 5 years or more experience as a Registered Nurse preferred;
  • First Aid, CPR and AED Certification preferred;
  • Child Hearing and Vision Testing Certification preferred;
  • Certified School Nurse license through the Illinois State Board of Education preferred;
  • School Nurse experience in a large school setting preferred;
  • Bilingual - Spanish preferred.
  • Must be able to complete Professional Educator License and receive Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and/or Certified School Nurse within two (2) years of appointment;
  • Incumbents in this class may be required to travel between buildings.
  • JOB SUMMARY:

    This position is accountable for providing a full range of professional nursing care services for the District.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply clinical therapeutic models of patient care with emphasis on interdisciplinary team approach;

  • Skill in vision screening using Snellen/MOTV charts;
  • Ability to act as a role model to health care staff by demonstrating professional behaviors;
  • Ability to analyze and evaluate proper care and treatment;

  • Attends workshops and training sessions in order to maintain skills;

  • Communicates with families, staff and community liaisons to interpret and facilitate the transfer of health data;
  • Conducts and supervises health screenings on children which includes screenings include vision, muscle-eye balance, hearing, height and weight (growth), scoliosis, and educational medical information;
  • Counsels staff, parents and students regarding health needs including pregnant and parenting teens;
  • Depending upon the age of the student population for which health services are being provided, may initiate the permanent health record;
  • Distributes and maintains records of controlled drugs and ensures their security;
