Responsibilities- Perform preventative maintenance.
- Maintain focus while working independently.
- Assist with wiring new and altered buildings if deemed necessary.
- Check blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs and follow directions as necessary.
- Determine requirements for parts, materials, supplies, tools and equipment; establish cost of repairs and equipment replacement; check and test new equipment.
- Install basic electrical devices (e.g. switches, outlets, ballasts).
- Maintain tools, equipment and supplies in a safe and orderly condition.
- Accurately keep maintenance records on tools and equipment.
- Remove snow and ice as needed.
- Perform general landscaping duties and operate equipment safely, including mowing, weed whacking, chainsaw and mulching.
- Maintain high-quality standards in housekeeping for both inside and outside work areas.
- Use common tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, and wrenches appropriately.
- Comply with safety policies and regulations.
- Respond to any emergency within scope of ability.
- Document required records and complete paperwork within required time frames.
- Possess strong organizational and follow‑up skills.
- Operate a district vehicle observing traffic laws and defensive driving practices when permitted.
- Perform technical and mechanical building repairs and construction as directed.
- Ensure security of district facilities.
- Move furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
- Keep district vehicles clean and in good running condition.
- Submit accurate orders for equipment parts and materials.
- Report injuries and accidents immediately and complete related paperwork.
- Inform the Director of Buildings and Grounds on progress and problems.
- Fill in for absent personnel in custodial, maintenance or grounds work.
- Communicate effectively and cooperate with district personnel.
- Exhibit professional presentation and attitude.
- Exhibit strong time‑management skills.
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director, Superintendent, and/or the Board of Education.
Term: 12 Months
FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt, Hourly
Location: District Wide
Reports to: Director of Buildings and Grounds
Certificates & Licenses- Valid Illinois driver’s license.
- HS Diploma or GED.
Communications: Ability to communicate verbally and written; direct staff and effectively communicate with co‑workers, students and parents/community members.
Emotional Control: Ability to maintain emotional control under stress.
Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing. Employee must be able to lift and carry 80 pounds. Job performed under extreme temperature variations and all weather conditions.
