As an Airport Law Enforcement Officer - Armed in Lihue, HI
, you’ll serve on the front line of aviation security—ensuring public safety, safeguarding airport facilities, and upholding the spirit of aloha through professional service. You will monitor and patrol assigned areas, conduct routine patrols, and remain highly visible to support a positive atmosphere. This position requires you to be armed and to operate a vehicle as part of your responsibilities. Position Type: Part Time – Morning
Pay Rate: $28.86 / Hour with an hourly bonus of $3.58. Premium paid shall be based on the position actually worked by the employee.
Job Schedule: Day Time Wed 05:00 AM – 02:00 PM;
Sat 06:00 AM – 02:00 PM
- 2+ years of professional law enforcement experience in the U.S. after graduating from a certified law enforcement academy (Federal, State, or County level).
- Graduate of Law Enforcement or Military Police Training Program or Equivalent (must provide credentials upon applying).
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Law Enforcement Officer License.
- 22+ years of age.
- No felony convictions or convictions for abuse of a household member under the Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.
- Documented truthfulness infractions in violation of Giglio/Henthorn for federal impeachment proceedings may disqualify an applicant.
- In good physical health and capable of performing normal or emergency duties requiring moderate to arduous physical exertion such as standing, walking, patrolling for an entire shift, climbing stairs, running, and self‑defense.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 lbs for a designated distance.
- Pass and complete a one‑time physical examination within the past 6 months.
- Random drug test and 12‑panel drug test required.
- Correctable vision to 20/30 each eye with normal color vision and hearing at a normal conversational level.
- Supervise contractor personnel and work effectively with airport management, tenants, other law enforcement agencies, and the public on matters relating to security disputes and complaints.
- Demonstrate strong moral character, high standards, and truthfulness.
- Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in English.
- Maintain courtesy in interactions with the public, airport employees, tenants, law enforcement, and security personnel.
- Be able to exercise sound judgment and render immediate, appropriate decisions under stressful conditions.
- Accept orders, follow instructions, and assume responsibility for one’s actions.
- Maintain alertness, attentiveness, and professional conduct.
- Respond to incidents and critical situations calmly and with a problem‑solving approach.
- Attend court appearances if required by the Department of Transportation and Aviation (DOTA) and allow for replacement staffing.
- Mentally and emotionally capable of performing all duties required for the assigned post/duties.
