Diesel Technician

Position Summary

We are hiring a Permanent Full‑Time Experienced Mid‑Level Diesel Technician to support our Truck Fleet at Ryder in Lihue, HI.

• Hourly Pay: $34.12 per hour
• Sign‑On Bonus: $2500 (Ryder pays $1250 at 30 days and $1250 at 90 days)
• Tool Box Incentive: $300 yearly allowance
• Certification Bonus: $100 for each new ASE Certification up to $700
• Quarterly Bonus:
  Up to $500 every quarter – four times per year
• Schedule:
  
  Monday – Friday, Weekends OFF
• Hours:
  
  First Shift 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Vocational or technical certification, post‑secondary degree or technical certifications preferred
• Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A required; ability to obtain CDL within 6 months after hire
• Minimum 2–3 years of relevant work experience, preferably in mechanical repair and diagnostics on heavy‑ and medium‑duty equipment
• Proficiency with basic tools and mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines (routine preventive maintenance including oil changes, brake and tire work)
• Basic diagnostics and repairs, including AC and electrical systems required
• Knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc.
• Ability to drive Ryder vehicles and pass Ryder drug test, DOT physical, Ryder road test, and background/motor‑vehicle check
• All additional certification required by location; SBTIII training within 180 days; complete 2 OEM online diagnostic scan tool courses within 365 days (specific to fleet mix)

• Perform vehicle maintenance and repair duties (standard and preventive maintenance)
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electronic problems using diagnostic computers when applicable
• Complete detailed mechanics inspections & repairs with minimal supervision
• Replace defective components as instructed
• Work unsupervised on most tasks; mentor Tech 1 and Tech 2 levels
• Perform facility maintenance duties
• Interact with customers/drivers to determine nature of complaints after task assignment
• Use shop management system and electronic documentation
• Adhere to federal, provincial, and corporate compliance guidelines (safety, DOT, MOT)
• Other support duties as required (e.g., service island support)
• Complete required training (SBTIII, OEM courses)
