Challenge Electric has been serving the industrial and commercial industries throughout Ohio and the Midwest for 34 years. Our 35th year will bring anniversary celebrations and continued growth. We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to grow with us.

This full‑time position is located in Lima, OH. You will support our Controller with ownership of key accounting processes, including job costing, billings, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, timekeeping, and office support.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure job costs are processed in accordance with internal control procedures.
  • Collect, review and verify employee timesheets and attendance records.
  • Prepare and process cost‑plus and lump‑sum billings in accordance with contractual terms.
  • Ensure all allowable costs are billed in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the billing process with the project team.
  • Manage relationships with the project management team to ensure exceptional levels of customer service and prompt payment.
  • Communicate with customers regarding billing inquiries and payment issues.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Operations, and IT to resolve discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and internal controls.
  • Support month‑end close and assist with audits.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of experience in general ledger or construction accounting, preferably in a project‑based environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including light formulas and data entry.
  • Proficient in accounting/ERP systems.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial processes.
  • Ability to analyze information and options by developing spreadsheet reports.
  • Ability to interface and communicate effectively (both written and verbal) with external customers and all levels within the organization.
  • Associate’s degree in Accounting or higher, preferred.
