Primary Function / General Purpose of the Position

The Teacher plans and implements the curriculum, supervises and manages the program and classroom. The role demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development across the life span and the ability to assess data reflective of the children’s status, interpret the appropriate information, and identify each child’s requirements relative to age, specific needs, and policies.

Essential Job Functions
  • Plans and implements educational activities for the assigned classroom.
  • Supervises play activities, meals, and rest time.
  • Records children’s daily activities and maintains daily student records.
  • Maintains open communication with parents.
  • Implements positive, supportive methods of behavior management.
  • Performs functions to safeguard children’s wellness and safety, reporting accidents and accurately completing incident reports.
  • Obtains certification and administers medication as required.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the children served.
  • Maintains classroom bulletin boards and parent information areas.
  • Conducts parent‑teacher conferences and maintains children’s portfolios.
  • Prepares and arranges educational materials.
  • Works with families of children with special needs, monitoring care plans, and following up on maintenance needs.
  • Supervises fire drills; conducts regular spot‑checks to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Assists direct reports with coordination of special events and quarterly events related to the areas of oversight.
Licensing / Certification

None required.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED.
Work Experience

One year of experience in supervising and providing care for children in a group setting is preferred.

Working Conditions
  • May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids.
  • May be exposed to human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
  • May be exposed to adverse weather conditions: cold, hot, dust, wind, etc.

  • Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment, and learn policies concerning infection control.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying (0–50 lbs.) and (50–100 lbs.).
  • Push/Pull up to 100 lbs., stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, balance, and bend regularly.
  • Manual dexterity and eye/hand coordination are essential.
  • Shift work and maneuvering of patient weight may be required.
  • Use of latex products; exposure to chemicals or high‑pitched noises.
  • Ability to reach above shoulder, with good depth perception.
