Job Details- Job Title: Medical Assistant (Ophthalmic Technician) – Part Time
- Company: Retina Vitreous Associates
- Location: Lima, OH 45805
- Travel: Travel to other offices required; mileage reimbursed
- Training Provided: No medical/eye care experience required
- Part Time – 24 hours a week
- Our offices are open Monday–Friday 7:30 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Availability on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays required; occasional earlier/later hours may be needed
- High school diploma or GED
- Favorable result on background check
- Basic computer skills
- Strong customer service skills

- Facilitate patient flow
- Assist the doctor with preliminary testing
- Verify medical and vision insurance
- Communicate effectively with patients, doctors, and managers
- Answer inquiries via phone, email, or in person
- Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
- Display a professional attitude, greet patients promptly with a smile, and thank them when they leave
- Practice urgency for patients, doctors, and schedule
- Comply with all company policies, including HIPAA
- Verify patient information by interviewing patient
- Record medical history, current medications, and confirm purpose of visit
- Record all data in the patient’s electronic medical record (EMR)
- Check condition of patient’s eyes by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
- Perform dilation, refraction, pressure checks, and various diagnostic tests (visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL master, auto refractor, topography)
- Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms, and ocular medications
- Handle general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager
- Desire to gain industry knowledge and training
- Demonstrates initiative in accomplishing practice goals
- Ability to grow, adapt, and accept change
- Creates a positive work environment by being team‑oriented and patient‑focused
- Interacts with all levels of employees courteously and professionally
- Willing to work over 40 hours when needed to meet business needs
- Reliable transportation for multiple locations with minimal notice
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Current Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) preferred but not required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Variety of physical activities: frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), standing (50%); regular bending, stooping, reaching (25–50%)
- Lifts, carries, pushes, pulls up to 25 lb
- Strong fine motor skills; full use of hands required for constant grasping, writing/typing, and technology use
- Visual and auditory acuity required 100% of time
- Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
