A Registered Nurse (RN) works according to the hospital or health system's mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures . They have both responsibility and accountability for the care of the patients assigned to them during their shift.
Main Responsibilities- The RN assesses (examines and understands) the patient's condition.
- Plans what care or treatment is needed.
- Implements (carries out) the treatment or care plan.
- Evaluates (reviews) if the care is working or if changes are needed.
- All of this is done according to the patient's age and specific needs .
- The RN makes decisions based on medical science and clinical experience to ensure the best care for patients.
- The RN helps in planning and guiding the work of other staff members who are not RNs.
- This can include workers like Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), and Unit Secretaries .
- The RN also helps teach and train these team members when needed.
