Position SummaryThe Instructor will lead and supervise water fitness classes at hours and times determined by pool management. Classes will focus on balance and coordination while increasing range of motion, joint flexibility, muscle strength, and cardiovascular fitness without causing strain. The instructor should be prepared to offer classes to a variety of age groups.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals, and groups
- Modify exercises to accommodate different skill levels, injuries, and physical limitations
- Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing participant performance and needs
- Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
- Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
- Friendly and courteous with participants and team members
- Ensuring a safe environment for all participants to avoid accidents or injuries
- Implementing the lesson plans in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
- Ensure proper use and care of pool equipment and teaching aids
- Report any maintenance or safety issues to management
- All additional duties assigned by management
- At least 2 years of teaching aquatics programs
- Strong swimming ability and knowledge of different swimming techniques
- Excellent interpersonal, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Team player
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, predominantly after‑school and weekends
- Current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period
- Currently or willing to become Red Cross certified
- Currently certified as a Water Fitness Instructor
- At least 18 years of age
- Passion for sports and athlete development
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds waist high
- Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment
- Position requires activity for extended periods of time
- May work in outside weather conditions
- May be exposed to hot, wet, and humid conditions, with minimal duties performed in direct sunlight
