Payroll Executive

As we continue to grow, TES are seeking an experienced Payroll Executive to join our Payroll team to support department payroll operations ensuring our team are paid accurately, on time and in accordance with UK legislation and company policies.

The Payroll Executive will be responsible for the end-to-end processing and administration of weekly and monthly payrolls across the business, ensuring accurate payroll records, statutory compliance and timely reporting. Working closely with Finance, HR, managers and employees, the role will provide a high-quality payroll service while identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and controls as the organisation continues to grow.

The successful candidate will have strong UK payroll expertise, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage confidential information with discretion. Experience with in a high-volume manufacturing or production environment is highly desirable.

About the role

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ownership of the end-to-end processing of weekly and monthly UK payrolls, ensuring employees are paid accurately and within agreed deadlines.

  • Process payroll for hourly paid and salaried employees, including overtime, shift allowances, deductions, statutory payments and other payroll adjustments.

  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and ensure all payroll changes are appropriately authorised and documented.

  • Ensure payroll is processed in accordance with current UK legislation, HMRC requirements and company policies.

  • Calculate and process statutory payments and deductions, including PAYE, National Insurance, pension contributions, student loan deductions and other applicable deductions.

  • Complete payroll reconciliations and investigate and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll submission and payment.

  • Prepare and submit required HMRC payroll information, including Full Payment Submissions (FPS) and Employer Payment Summaries (EPS), where applicable.

  • Ensure year-end payroll processes are completed accurately and within statutory deadlines, including P60s and relevant employee documentation.

  • Support the administration of workplace pension auto-enrolment and ongoing pension-related payroll requirements.

  • Maintain and administer the Company’s time and attendance and payroll systems, ensuring accurate employee and working-hours data.

  • Monitor hours worked, overtime and other payroll-relevant information received through the time management system.

  • Register new employees and maintain employee records within the relevant payroll and time-management systems.

  • Work closely with Production and Line Management to resolve discrepancies between recorded hours, approved timesheets and payroll data.

  • Identify opportunities to improve the integration, efficiency and accuracy of payroll and time-management processes.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives designed to increase payroll efficiency, accuracy and automation.

  • Work closely with the HR and Finance teams undertaking other reasonable duties consistent with the responsibilities of the role.

The Person-Essential:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in high-volume UK payroll processing, preferably within a manufacturing, engineering, production or similarly complex environment.

  • Proven experience processing both weekly and monthly payrolls.

  • Experience managing payroll for a sizeable hourly paid workforce, including overtime, shift patterns and variable pay.

  • Strong knowledge of PAYE, National Insurance, statutory payments and payroll deductions.

  • Experience using payroll and time-and-attendance systems; experience with Sage Payroll/Sage Micropay.

  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with payroll data and reconciliations.
