ESSENTIAL CRITERIA (Section
1)
- Meet statutory Health and Safety obligations; required training will be provided by the Education Authority cleaning service.
- Shortlisted via application form.
2)
- Experience, qualifications and evidence of knowledge of the requirements of a school cleaner, cleaning methods/machinery, and Health and Safety requirements (including COSHH).
- Skills and abilities:
initiative, working under pressure to meet deadlines, effective communication and interpersonal skills in English, organisation and planning, teamwork, flexible approach to work and willingness to follow instruction. - Values orientation: evidence of how experience and approach to work reflect the Education Authority’s ethos and values.
3)
- Three months’ experience of cleaning outside the home environment.
- Demonstrable experience of using a range of commercial cleaning tools (e.g., buffing machinery).
Responsible to:
Cleaning Supervisor or other authorised person.
Undertake, as part of a team, the cleaning of any area within the premises as designated by the line manager.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- All duties must comply with the Health and Safety at Work (NI) Order 1978, relevant Statutory Instruments, the COSHH Regulations, and applicable Codes of Practice.
- All duties will be performed in the working conditions normally inherent in the particular job.
- Cover colleagues on sick leave in line with Education Authority procedures.
- Absence must be reported in line with the Education Authority’s procedure and the relevant forms must be completed and signed by the Building Supervisor.
- Protective clothing or workwear issued must be worn when carrying out cleaning duties.
- Flat‑soled enclosed‑toe footwear is required when carrying out cleaning duties.
- Cleaning equipment issued must be used and cared for safely; any defects must be reported immediately.
- All necessary paperwork must be completed.
- Duties will be carried out for jobs up to and including those in the same grade, provided such duties are within the competence of the employee.
- Employees will accept any training for jobs graded at a higher level than their own; payment will be made only where required for higher‑level duties.
- Training to include induction training and refresher training.
In accordance with Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act (1998), the postholder is expected to promote good relations, equality of opportunity and pay, and comply with equality legislation at all times.
Posts that involve work in educational institutions are subject to the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007. The successful applicant will require an enhanced disclosure check, which at present costs £33; further details regarding the payment of this check will be issued with employment contract.
