Introduction:

The purpose of this position is to assist dental professionals with the daily operation of the Tribal dental clinic, aligning with the Tribe's holistic health and wellness objectives for patients and families. Ensures that healthcare services are provided professionally and efficiently.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist with routine dental procedures in general dentistry as a chairside assistant.
  • Accurately record, scan, and retrieve treatment information in electronic dental records (Next Gen, Dexis, Romexis) and manage paper charts.
  • Complete dental laboratory work orders following dentist and laboratory instructions, including sending out and checking in lab work.
  • Perform routine dental lab procedures such as pouring and trimming models, constructing custom trays, and fabricating base plates and bite rims.
  • Prepare patients and operatory for procedures, including setting up instruments.
  • Properly expose and manipulate digital intra-oral and panoramic radiographs.
  • Provide functions permitted under EFDA certification, including preparing dental materials, fabricating and cementing temporary crowns, and applying sealants and fluoride treatments, among others.
  • Explain procedures, risks, and post-treatment instructions to patients.
  • Motivate and instruct patients on preventive techniques.
  • Assist with wellness and community activities such as screenings and sealant clinics.
  • Maintain infection control standards by sterilizing and storing dental instruments properly.
  • Keep the dental area clean, stocked, and organized.
  • Manage dental supplies and equipment inventory.
  • Coordinate patient scheduling and liaise with Patient Accounts for lab fee agreements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the dentist or Oregon Board of Dentistry.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED and Oregon radiological proficiency certification.
  • Obtain Oregon EFDA Certification within six months of hire; position transitions to Dental Assistant III upon certification and experience.
  • Knowledge of dental anatomy, radiography, and routine dental instruments.
  • Preferred experience in dental assisting.
  • Ability to explain post-operative and preventive instructions to patients.
  • Develop positive relationships with patients, staff, and professional groups.
  • Availability to work 40 hours per week as needed.
  • Current healthcare provider CPR certification or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Maintain all relevant certifications during employment.
